Nearly 25 years ago, Albert Hershberger embarked on a journey that has steadily grown throughout the years. With a leap of faith, he began a livestock auction, primarily for the sale of goats. Since those humble beginnings, he has witnessed the addition of new livestock facilities, a complete remodeling of existing “sale barn” native lumber pens into larger and brighter pens complete with wire front panels, an office expansion, and an open concept hoop barn that can be used as an indoor sale arena for various horse sales.

In the early years, Albert adopted the phrase: Danville Auction – Where the Small Farmer Meets. Even today, this tagline rings true at Danville Auction. Regular sales are held the first and third Saturdays of each month. These sales include a full complement of livestock, antiques and collectibles, household items, baked goods and eggs, poultry and rabbits, as well as hay. Special “features” are sometimes incorporated into the regular sale. Some of the special features include Lawn and Garden, Dairy Goats, Mini Animals, Springtime Baby Animals and Feeder Cattle. Livestock sales may have a catalog of entries to accompany the sale. These sales will be advertised in advance and up-to-date information can be viewed on Facebook at Danville Auction LLC.

Hay auctions are held every Saturday to help area farmers sell as well as provide an opportunity for small farmers to source hay and straw for their livestock. More recently, several horse and pony sales are held throughout the year and bring a new excitement to the facility.

Regardless of the type of sale, attendees are invited to obtain a buyer’s number and bid on merchandise or animals that they would like to purchase and take home.
